Telc

The ancient town of Telc belongs to the most beautiful towns in Europe that were founded in 13 century. The first references of a settlement date back to the year 1207. As early as in 15 century there was the town hall. The greatest flowering of Telc came in 16 century. A part of medieval rampart, two gates, late-Gothic fortification and a number of Gothic, Renaissance and baroque houses have been preserved. In the historical centre of the town, you can find some interesting features on each of the houses. The parish church from 14 century has been rebuilt and adapted. An attraction for tourists is the suburb of Telc, the Old Town, a unique complex of folk architecture, and a number of ponds in the surroundings of the town. Telc got its today´s face after the fire in 1530 when most of the houses were destroyed and subsequently repaired. Also the castle of Telc was rebuilt, originally a Gothic castle from the late 14 century. The castle belongs to the treasures of Moravian Renaissance architecture. Its appeal is multiplied by the fact that its original interiors have been preserved in a very good condition. The castle together with the historical centre has been registered in the UNESCO List of Cultural and Natural Heritage. In the square there is the Museum of the Highlands with a unique mobile crib. About one thousand of visitors from the Czech Republic and from abroad come to Telc every year. The town lives a rich cultural life the whole year round. Every year, the European Days of Music, Telc Summer – Holidays in Telc and many other interesting events are held there.
